PostSubject: GW1: 30/50 Hall of Monuments guide   GW1: 30/50 Hall of Monuments guide EmptyFri Feb 24, 2012 7:58 pm

Let's assume you're starting with a clean slate, an empty account. You either just bought the game, or returned from a long break. You want to get 30/50 in your Hall of Monuments here as quickly as possible, for Guildwars 2. This is how you do it...

1: FIRST STEPS
  • Buy all 3 Chapters and Expansion of Guildwars: Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North. Link them all to a single account. (If you can't afford this, you shouldn't even be playing)
  • Make a PvP character of any kind. You start out at Great Temple of Balthazar.
  • At the North part of town, talk to Tolkano and register your account.
  • Go up the stairs and talk to High Priest Zhang.
  • Press H to open your Hero Panel, and click the Account tab. Notice that he gave you 50 Tournament Reward Points?
  • Go back down the stairs and talk to Tolkano, trade those 50 Tournament Reward Points for 10 Zaishen Keys.
  • Press P to open Party Search. Search for someone buying Zaishen Keys for 5k or more (there are always buyers). Sell them all in seconds for a quick 50,000+ Gold.
    • +3 (3/50)
    • Hall of Monuments: Accounts Linked (+3)
    • 50,000 Gold

2: GAINING ACCESS
  • Make a Nightfall PvE Character. Reach Level 5 by doing quests.
  • Once you reach Jokanur Diggings, head out the West exit with Henchmen. Talk to the Sunspear Scout for the bounty and head North West. Kill the large group of Level 2 Skale in the pen, and repeat until you reach Level 4 Sunspear Rank.
  • Once you reach Level 4 Sunspear Rank, finish your remaining quests to recruit Melonni. Due to the quest rewards, you will be at level 10.
  • Once you reach Level 10, go back to Kamadan and talk to Bendah, who is standing next to the Northern stairs at the centre of town. Take his quest and head towards the waypoint on your map. Don't forget to pick up M.O.X. on the way, he's standing just outside Kamadan.
  • Enter the Fissure and continue on to enter Boreal Station. From there, head into Ice Cliff Chasms and speak to Jora. Take her quest Against The Destroyers, and run to The Eye of the North.
  • On the way, look up the top left of your screen. You have recieved a buff, Journey to the North, that gives you 241 Atribute points, and level 20 stats.
  • Enter the Hall of Monuments, talk to Gwen, and look into the Scrying Pool. Talk to Gwen again to recieve a Monumental Tapestry. Use it to gain access to Devotion, Fellowship, Resilience or Valor.
  • Take the South exit from The Eye of the North, back into Ice Cliff Chasms. Head East, then North. Directly above The Eye of the North, you will find a teleport to a new area, Norrhart Domains. Enter. Continue a little further North, and there's a door on the right that takes you to Gunnar's hold.
  • While you're in Gunnar's hold, talk to Magni the Bison to pick up a tournament quest. Next, talk to Gellir Frostshield to start the tournament. Continue the Tournament until you battle against Xandra and Kahmu. Defeating them will recruit them as Heroes. If you're having trouble, buy some better skills in Nightfall.
Note: If you leave the Eye of the North before getting to Lion's Arch, the only way to get back is to enter Embark Beach via a Zaishen Scout found in any town. Talk to Nagi, and select Eye of the North from the Far Shiverpeaks.
    • Gain Hero: Koss
    • Gain Hero: Dunkoro
    • Gain Hero: Melonni
    • Gain Hero: M.O.X.

4: GETTING YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR
  • Go to Fort Aspenwood using the builds and guide supplied here. Continue until you reach Rank 4 in either Kurzick or Luxon, buying Amber if you're Kurzick or Jade of you're Luxon. Once you have enough Amber or Jade for your Elite armor at Mikolas in Leviathan Pits or Giygas at Vasburg Armory, transfer faction to your Guild Hall until you reach rank 4 in your Kurzick or Luxon Allegiance. Use any spare Balthazar Faction you get to buy Zaishen Keys from Tolkano, and sell to players for 5,000 Gold each. When ready, buy your Kurzick or Luxon Elite armor. While wearing it, visit your Hall of Monuments and add it to Resilience.
  • Start the quest here to get a Black Moa Chick Minipet. When it tells you to enter Sorrow's Furnace, Complete both Sorrow's Furnace and the Black Moa Chick at the same time. Be sure to get hit by the flame at the end to hatch the egg. Apply both the Black Moa Chick and Sorrow's Furnace to your Hall of Monuments.
  • Either do the quest The Beak of Darkness from Rutger zu Heltzer in House zu Heltzer, or take a major shortcut by asking someone in The Eye of the North outpost to take you to capture a Black Moa pet. It only takes a minute to do, and you should have no problem finding a willing helper. Offering payment will increase your chances, but usually not needed. The black Moa pet is a unique pet, and comes already at Level 20. You can add it to your Hall of Monuments as soon as you capture it.
  • Complete the War in Kryta quests in Hard Mode, to get enough Medals of Honor to make two Oppressor Weapons. If you still don't have enough, do the repeatable daily quests.
  • Make a Destroyer Weapon, and apply all your new weapons to your Hall of Monuments.
    • +9 (17/50)
    • Statue: Kurzick or Luxon Armor
    • Statue: Eternal Savior of the Kurzicks or Luxons
    • Statue: Eternal Comquerer of Sorrow's Furnace
    • Statue: Black Moa Minipet
    • Statue: Animal Companion

5: SPENDING SPREE, THE FINAL 13
  • From here on, you're going to need a lot of cash. A fast way to get it is to use the Fort Aspenwood trick above, making and selling Zaishen Keys. The thing about Zaishen Keys is that a lot of PvE only players need to get it for a PvP statue in their 50/50. It costs you 200 Zaishen Keys to get, costing you 1,000,000 Gold to buy the Statue. Most players who buy their Statue don't really play the game, they get to Temple of the Ages and farm Ectoplasm for years. Fortunately for you, there's no shortage of players like this, all willing to hand over their hoarded gold to buy a pseudoepeen with your Zaishen Keys. Everyone wins. Since you only need 13 more points for your Hall of Monuments, below is a list of your best options and their current prices at the time of writing this guide.
  • +3 Honor (20/50): Use the Fort Aspenwood trick to get 200 Zaishen Keys for Eternal Zaishen Supporter.
  • +2 Honor (22/50): Get a total of 15 Statues in Honor, by first Completing the Fissure of Woe for Eternal Conquerer of the Fissure of Woe. Next, finish your Sunspear Title by using one of the Hard Mode methods here. Lastly, do all your Skill Hunter Titles (290 Elite Skills, costing you 290,000 Gold, (half of which you get back from the loot you get from killing the Bosses). The most efficient way of doing Skill Hunter Titles is to bring up wiki for a list of elites here, and systematically go through them one by one, checking the locations of each Elite as you go for the quickest boss for each Elite.
  • +4 Fellowship (26/50): Do Glint's Challenge with Heroes by speaking to speak with Consular Brand Oakencask at the Central Transfer Chamber. Do it 9 times to get 9 Cloths of the Brotherhood. Apply them to your Eye of the North Heroes.
  • +1 Valor (27/50): Make 2 more Destroyer Weapons, costing you 158,000 Gold.
  • +3 Resilience (30/50): Make 4 Elite Armor sets, costing you about 400,000-800,000 Gold (variable price). I recommend checking Marhan's Grotto and Granite Citadel in Tyria for cheap alternatives. Be sure the armors you get are listed in the Hall of Monuments.

Congratulations! You just reached 30/50 in your Hall of Monuments, just in time for Guild Wars 2.

Thanks! Just trying to save people time from doing things the hard way.

The colors are there to emphasize the important points to make it easier to understand and keep on track. Guild Wars does this too. Imagine how confusing it would be if all the game text was white.

Profession/class isn't important. My personal choice would be Monk or Warrior, avoiding Ranger and Paragon. At Fort Aspenwood, you can enter with a PvP character, so it won't matter. Also note that this guide starts from scratch. If you made progress on your account in certain areas already, there might be an even fasrter way to get to 30. If you need any help with that, let me know your character name and I'll look your account up.

Hi there, i follow every single step you that you wrote, and i found it very differcult to beat the norn tournament. Can you also teach "new player" how to beat it easily ??

I have fould this video on youtube, and i try to do it the same way...i dunno why it didt work....i am stuck at the norn tournament...please help Crying or Very sad

Youtube: type : Guild Wars Norn Fighting Tournament Made Easy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it possble to skip the norn tournament (less 2 heros) and complete the Nightfall Campaign?

Also, will i be able to use my character created in Nightfall and use it and his heros in Prophecies and Factions story mode ? Or i have to creat a newcharacter like the Nightfall .

I really want to do that 30 pts so badly Mad

For your second question, yes you can use your nightfall character with his/her hero's in proph and factions.
I might be free later this week, and if I am then I will help you finish nightfall.
Also don't be overwhelmed or sad about the norn tournament. Instead understand the build further than just looking at what buttons the person is pressing.

Notice how he/she casts their spirits before hand and then walks in? This is so that the spirits are already up. When the norn is coming towards you, you have to cast the ebon assassin. Painful bond is then casted so that all the spirits that do damage to the norn are doing even more damage. This will help kill the norn faster.

Once you understand how the build works, I'm sure there will not be much difficulty to complete the norn tournament.

I switched my build to Warrior / RT, however, base on my items....i cannot put points to Rt's Attributes.....

Maybe i don't understand the game itself well enough Sad

It would be great if you can teach me how to beat the tournament cheers

I also want to know....will it effect my HOM points if i don't do the side misson of the game.

Thank you for the reply, i really appreciate it

PostSubject: Re: GW1: 30/50 Hall of Monuments guide   GW1: 30/50 Hall of Monuments guide EmptyMon Apr 02, 2012 3:02 pm

Don't worry about beating the whole tournament, my guide here says 'Continue the Tournament until you battle against Xandra and Kahmu. Defeating them will recruit them as Heroes'. All you need to do is attempt it a few times until you face and defeat Xandra and Kahmu. The first 5 battles are relatively easy and give you a chance at facing Xandra and Kahmu, while the 6th and final battle is the tough one, Magni the Bison. Just do the first 5 and restart the battle again. If you made it to Magni, you might have them already. Check your list of heroes to be sure. The reason it's important to get Xandra and Kahmu is because they're both Eye of the North heroes. This means you can apply Cloth of the Brotherhood from Glint's Challenge, and get your +4 Resillience. On top of that, Xandra can run a very powerful build (listed in the PvE Hero section) that can help you progress through the game much easier and faster.

If you want to put attributes into Ritualist Channeling, you need to be in a town. It won't let you otherwise. Just open the Skills menu by pressing K, then remove points from other Attributes to give you some space. You can only use up to 200 Attribute Points at a time. If you're not level 20 yet, the game will automatically set your attributes by itself, based on what skills you have.

If you still want to beat the whole tournament, the easiest way is to use a Signet of Spirits build like the one you saw in that video.

But it takes time to get all those skills, since some of them require you to do quest chains. Beating Magni is something you should only attempt once you've beaten the game.

So long as you have [Signet of spirits] and [painful bond] (run your mouse over the icons to know their names), you're well on your way to beating the first 5 opponents easily. The trick is in using spirits that attack. You place them at the door at the start of the battle, in just the right spot. Look carefully where that spot is here in the video you saw...

As soon as you place your spirits, run forward until your opponent starts moving. Then run back to your spirits and cast [ebon vanguard assassin support] on your opponent when the spirits begin attacking. To show how well this works, I just tested it with only 4 skills [signet of spirits][pain][bloodsong][ebon vanguard assassin support], and still defeated Magni with a bit of running around.

As for what you mean about a side mission, I don't understand. Do you mean all the quests you come across? If so, then no you don't need them. The only quests you need to do are Primary Quests, the ones up the top of your quest log when you press L.[build prof][/build]

Hi Terran, guess who!

Great guide, however I'm struggling to get my last 2 points. (to 30)

Trying for 1 Tormented weapon and 5 weapon statues to hit those last 2 points, but struggling to find anyone selling Tormented weapons(180k?), or anyone selling Ectos that aren't way over-priced so I can use as a second currency.(due the 100 platinum carry cap)

My rep/title tracks for asura/dwarf aren't even close to 5 to be able to make the armor(which would put me at 7 armor statues with 1 point short of 30), Vabbian and Obsidian cost way too much(compared to the weapons).

I suck at keeping track of what minipets i need or already have =( - So I ruled 40 miniatures out.

Sitting close to 200 platinum trying to work out the best way of getting those last 2 points without being ripped off.

Any suggestions?

(Character Aiqcuties Rainbow of course =) )

Tormented weapons are a real pain to find. Looking at your hall as it is, I see a fast way of doing it...

1. Finish Nightfall, Fissure of Woe, and two Skill Hunters. (+1 Honor)

2. Finish War in Kryta (on another character too if you need) to get 30 Medals of honor, which means another 3 Oppressor Weapons (+1 Valor). Alternatively, you could do 2 more Oppressor Weapons and 1 Destroyer Weapon.

You're probably well on your way to completing them anyway, you should be able to get them done in a day or two. I'll come help if I see you online.

I just wanted to post my thanks for putting up this guide.

I had never played a minute of Guild Wars, I used a number of your steps and I just ding'd 30/50 HOM in 205 Hours over the past 27 days.

I did it slightly diff, got a lot of minis and a tormented weapon and more companion statues, didn't do the ZKey title or a lot of the other pve titles.

In any event, your post was what started me off towards my goal and I'm very grateful.

Cheers,

Thanks, it's nice to know that the guide helped. I decided to write it after seeing so many people get confused and do things the long way. There's a lot of ways you can reach 30, but you can shave a lot of time off with a few tricks here and there. Grats on getting to 30 within a month!

Hi there, first of all I wanna say very very nice guide! I believe the nicest around the internet atm.

I was hoping you could help me figure out how to get better gear (as I feel really squishy while completing those campaigns at some point). I know you need to let them craft & such but I was hoping
you could explain things abit more into detail since in the end i'll have to fight stuff in "hardmode" :p.

ps: I play guild wars now for 1 week or something so i'm a total noob xD

Thanks in advance

Fyvven, apologies for the delayed answer. When guests post here, it doesn't show a 'new post' message, so I didn't know you had posted.

You don't have to do hard mode to get 30/50. If you get eye of the north heroes, it makes the game much easier to finish. If you're struggling to survive, try running back behind your team so that they attack them instead of you. Check my 'how to pull mobs' guide for different ways of fighting them. As for crafting armor, you get the materials you need from monster drops. Whatever you don't have, you can buy from the materials and rare materials merchants in town.

In Tyria, you get maximum armor at Droknars Forge. (later in the game)

In Cantha, you get maximum armor at Kaineng Centre. (early on)

In Elona, you get maximum armor at Consulate Docks. (early on)

As for weapons, don't buy them. Be patient and you will get a good one from a monster drop, customize it at a weapons merchant for 20% more damage. At the end of a campaign, talk to an NPC to get a special item that you can trade for a perfect weapon. Perfect damage stats on a weapon are...

Wand: 11-22
Staff: 11-22
Axe: 6-28
Sword: 15-22
Hammer: 19-35
Bow: 15-28
Spear: 14-27
Daggers: 7-17
Scythe: 9-41

If you're stuck on a mission, check your build (your set of 8 skills and their attribute points from the K menu). There might be a way to improve it by getting new skills from a skill trainer. You can buy runes and insignias at a rune trader to buff your health and stats, apply them to your armor pieces. And dont forget to check the help menu by pressing F10, it provides wiki links related to your location and situation. You can also type '/wiki item-of-interest'. You can always tag along with other more experienced players you find in town as well.

Hi there, I'm stoked that I finally found someone who laid it out simple.
Just one question though; When I go talk to High Priest Zhang he tells me "Sorry, you must have a Xunlai account in order to claim Tournament Reward Points. Go register your account with Tolkano and then come back to receive your points."
So I went and talked to him to do this, but am unsure what character to choose to register. This one I just made or previous ones? what is the best approach here?
On a side note: I've never played guild Wars before a couple of days ago. So forgive my noobness Rolling Eyes I have a level 6 in Prophecies and a couple of other level 2/3's

Thanks for your help, Kaz

Hey Kaz. I wasn't aware that you needed to register first, I just updated the guide to add that part. It's very straight forward though. It doesn't matter which character you register with, whichever you prefer. You can change the name every 30 days anyway.

As Terran posted above me, you can use any character(I believe it takes the name of it) and change it at a later date - If you ever plan to actually pvp through it.

There are multiple ways to get to 30/50, you may end up being lucky to have someone kind enough to help you along the way Smile.

Hi. I just registered to thank you for posting this guide. I am using it as a reference and find it easy to follow. So thank you!

I'm pretty much a newbie, I played guild wars a few times in the past, but it never stuck. Really I never gave it a proper chance. Now that Gw2 is coming out I thought I'd go ahead and try to get a few HOM points as the beta was an absolute blast. As a result I've found that I actually really like GW now that I've put some time into it.

If you guys don't mind though. I do have a couple of questions... I have all of the GW games, but I started with Nightfall via advice from the guide here. I'm playing a Necro. I've seen a lot of "builds" that involve skills that do not seem to exist in Nightfall. Not elite ones, just a few useful signets, or regular skills. Example would be the Flesh Minion. I know that's a Prophecies skill, but shouldn't it still be available even if I'm playing Nightfall? That's the impression I've gotten anyway. Please let me know if I'm wrong... lol

Second question. How in the world do I beat the Mison Tourney as a Necro. I'm getting creamed! I've tried switching builds, but nothing seems to work... any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like you're talking about [animate bone horror] [animate bone minions] and [animate Flesh Golem]. None of those are useful in the Norn tournament though, since you need a dead body for it to work. [animate bone horror] and [animate bone minions] are Core skills. What that means is that they're available in every chapter, a common generic skill. [animate Flesh Golem] is an Elite skill that only exists in Factions. If you're looking for a skill, go into Guild Wars and type '/wiki skillname' in the chat box. It takes you right to the wiki entry on that skill, showing every location you can get it from. Once you get a skill, you can use it anywhere.

When I wrote the guide, I made a new character and ran through it all to make sure there weren't any mistakes. That character just happened to be a Necromancer/Mesmer. I remember beating the Norn tournament easily with the starter skills from both professions. If you have a problematic primary/secondary profession mix and can't seem to beat it, it's ok to go further into the game to buy more skills first. You can unlock every secondary profession early in Nightfall, from Zuwarah at Sunspear Sanctuary just after you reach the mainland. The easiest way to win is to use Ritualist attack spirits like [signet of spirits][bloodsong][shadowsong][pain] alongside [painful bond], then just run around avoiding damage while the spirits do all the work. Kahmu is harder than Xandra, so if you're having trouble you can try him when you're stronger. Xandra is the important one anyway. You get a chance to face him on round 2. If you don't face him on round 2, /resign and retry a few times. Don't forget that you don't need to beat the whole tournament. All you need is to defeat Xandra on round 2, and if possible, Kahmu on round 4 as well.

So a good way to win would be for me to get ritualism skills form factions. So... should I stop playing Nightfall and make a factions character, or would be be much better to just buy the skill unlocks for factions? I noticed they're on sale, I'm tempted to unlock all 4 campaigns just to save time... opinion? Also, thank you for the reply. You really do have a way of bringing things down a few levels so newbie's like I can understand! =)

Any PvE character can play in any campaign that's paid for on your account. A Nightfall character can play in Factions and Prophecies. You unlock them like this...

From Prophecies: Lion's Arch
To Factions (Cantha) → Mhenlo's Request given by Firstwatch Sergio
To Nightfall (Elona) → Sunspears in Kryta given by Lionguard Figo
To Eye of the North (Northern Tyria) → What Lies Beneath given by Len Caldoron
Players can also gain access to Crystal Overlook in Elona by heading out to The Arid Sea and using the portal there. Players need to have completed the Gate of Desolation mission before they will be allowed access.

From Factions: Kaineng Center
To Prophecies (Tyria) → Chaos in Kryta given by Guardsman Chienpo
To Nightfall (Elona) → Sunspears in Cantha given by Imperial Guardsman Linro
To Eye of the North (Northern Tyria) → I Feel the Earth Move Under Cantha's Feet given by Minister of Maintenance Raiugyon

From Nightfall: Kamadan, Jewel of Istan
To Prophecies (Tyria) → Terror in Tyria given by Deras Tenderlin
To Factions (Cantha) → Plague in Cantha given by Funwa Shento
To Eye of the North (Northern Tyria) → Hole of Istan given by Bendah
Players can also gain access to The Arid Sea in Tyria by heading out to Crystal Overlook and using the portal there. Players need to have prior access to Amnoon Oasis before using this portal.

Skill unlocks work differently though. Skill packs only affect PvP characters and skills your heroes use. Your own skills as a PvE character still have to be bought from skill trainers in towns, and elite skills captured by bosses with [signet of capture].

Don't waste time on the Norn tournament. If you can't get Kahmu, just get Xandra and come back later. Beating the tournament is a waste of time. All you get is a Bison Championship Token. Five of them can be exchanged for a head armor that looks like a crown. It is purely cosmetic and has no advantage over normal head armor whatsoever. There are countless other special head armors you find throughout the game anyway.

If you want to beat the Norn Tournament anyway, get the skills you need from Factions and Eye of the North in the relevant build here.[build prof][/build]

PostSubject: Re: GW1: 30/50 Hall of Monuments guide   GW1: 30/50 Hall of Monuments guide EmptyMon Jul 16, 2012 3:39 am

Hi there,
I've been playing Guild Wars on and off (more off) for the last 7 years. I'm still only at 19 in my HoM. Here's my HoM link:

hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=ABAAAAgHAMAAAAgAopDAAAAAAAAAAAAATEQIQAAAAAA

I realise after reading this post that I've been doing things very (x3) inefficiently. And because I haven't been playing frequently, I'm unaware of the value of things. Here's one example. Just yesterday, I received a 7th birthday present. I opened it to find a mini black beast of aaaarrrrghhh, a gold mini that I had already dedicated to the Hall of Monuments. I sold this for 40k, and only just found out that I could have sold the actual unopened present for much much more Sad (I now have 100k after getting 50k for Z keys using your suggestion).

I plan to buy 4 more white minis to get to 20 points. But I'm not sure on the most efficient method to get the next 10 points. I'd appreciate any advice Smile.

Regards,

Jatz

I've been using your guide and it's proved useful thus far. Some of the latter missions in Nightfall are becoming exceptionally difficult, though. I've been stuck on the Gate of Madness mission for awhile now.

Anyway, your build page lacks Dervish guides; do you have any advice for building this class effectively?
